By exposing the emulsion covered screen to daylight or fluorescent light, the emulsion changes into a tough coating. When a black and white image printed on clear acetate or 20-pound paper is placed over the screen and exposed to daylight, the emulsion under the black areas remains water soluble and washes off creating an open mesh for paint to pass through.
