Got a tip? Email me and I'll put it online with a credit to you.

Normally one of Sydney's coldest months, we've been so fortunate that the weather has been relatively mild. I haven't even worn gloves once this winter, which I am sooo pleased about, let me tell you!

Cheers

I thought it might be a good time to remind you all about some online tutorials - Dharma Trading has a fabulous page of How-To's, and here are just a couple related to silk painting:
To see the rest of Dharma's How-To's visit this page:

http://www.dharmatrading.com/info/

... and while you're there, have a look at the Painting on Wool link - did you know that silk dyes work fabulously on wool as well as silk? It's a natural fibre, and absorbs the dyes differently, but is certainly worth an experiment or two.

While you're at the Dharma site, don't forget to see if there are any sales on silk on the roll, or silk scarves. Although Dharma doesn't ship to Australia, you can have your order shipped to a friend in the US who can then forward to you - which is what I've done for years.

To see a list of Silk Suppliers around the world, check out the Links page on this website [click here], it's always a good idea to compare prices [don't forget to include shipping and time to deliver].

While I was cruising the Dharma site, I clicked on the *SAFETY* link ... it's worth a visit and certainly it's a good idea to refresh your memory on chemicals and the safe use of them.

Let us know if you have any suggestions or comments about how you observe safety in your painting and creating.

I know what you're thinking ... *Is that really a SILK painting???*, and the answer is YES. Leonard is one of THE most amazing silk artists.

Have a look at his flowers online:

*Biddulph Dahlia* - silk painting mounted 50cm square © 2004 Leonard Thompson

You'd better go make a cup of tea or coffee before you visit Leonard's site, you'll feel like looking at these photos with a magnifying glass - they're incredible!

Today silk painting is an extremely popular art form but it is almost as old as the discovery of silk itself. With modern dyes and paints the design possibilities are limitless. Using Pébéo Setasilk iron-fixed silk paints, water solvent gutta and in some paintings batik wax as the resist, I have developed a technique that hides the resist lines. The finished pictures are carefully stretched and mounted on acid-free board and then framed for exhibition.

That's right - he uses IRON-FIXED PAINTS!

Shock horror - I hear you gasp! How can that be? Well, Leonard used what he had available and became a Master at it, more credit to him. I'd love to hear your thoughts once you've visited his website - do let me know!

PS - Leonard has written 4 books, if you're interested in trying his amazing techniques.

If you're fortunate enough to live in the UK, visit Leonard for his demo:

News from around the World

I gather info on articles which appear anywhere online - sometimes I check them all out, sometimes I don't have time to. You will find the word *silk* in each of them, sometimes *silk painting* sometimes *handpainted silk*. Sometimes the article might not have anything to do with silk painting, but it might be interesting anyway - be adventurous!

Some newspaper sites ask you to become a member - for free - in order to read their articles. The choice is yours. To find the word SILK in each webpage you go to, select EDIT / FIND from your top browser menu.
