December ... Christmas carols ... gifts ... Yuletide ... holiday season ... too much food and drink ... catching up with loved ones, friends, associates ... sleighbells, Rudolph the Red ... I'm sure you're all as flat out as a lizard drinking, busy with all the festivities to plan, projects to finish, shopping to be done ... you probably don't have time to read!See you in the New Year, 
PS - technology got the better of me! I've been struggling with my computer for some time now - in the midst of trying to write newsletters, articles, update this Silkworm site ... and I am looking forward to taking a well-deserved break. In the new year I hope to finish transferring this whole website to a new format [doing a few pages at a time at the moment] and fingers' crossed it all goes without a glitch. I've been investigating software to *manage* the links on the links page, in an easier to use, easier to read format, and I'll be ever so pleased when it finally goes live. Blogs are also something I've been investigating, and are a great way to announce info and snippets between newsletters - they can be set up so that others can post Comments, which can be a good and a bad thing, depending on what they choose to say, haha. So apologies for delays in newsletters - I've been struggling to do way too many things I suspect, and sometimes the technology lets me down ... just when I need it! I hope you are all free of techie issues!

USA :: Silk Painters' International Fantastic classes to attend, meeting people in the flesh I'd been emailing and phoning for a few years - it was such an extraordinary experience! I'd like to share something with you that I wrote when I got back to Australia:

David Ludwig wearing his own handpainted creation Visions in extraordinary colours started to emerge, to pirouette their way through the tables and guests in time to the flute's lilting music, and oohs and ahhs were heard around the courtyard filled with guests who had been waiting with great anticipation for this event. An extraordinary amount of talent was displayed in so many wearable art pieces, each one a masterpiece of its own; it was hard to believe this represented only a small percentage of the members who were seated in this courtyard, ablaze with the colours and textures of handpainted silk. The models kept coming, more and more designs on display, each one so different from the one before. 
Tracey looking stunning in a kimono by Addie Chernus For me it was an overwhelming experience, to share these moments with other silk artists gathering in this one spot on the earth, to share the results of their silk painting, to come together to learn and teach, to marvel at the skill with which some artists had created these flowing floating beauties in all types of silken delights. It was a feast for the eyes, the soul, the heart ... one which I will remember for a long long time to come.

andy Southan of Silk Painters Guild UK, explains there is an alternative system to mixing darker colours using black.
 It is often called the dual-primary system which has two blues; two reds and two yellows but definitely no black! Look on the workshops page for the article on colour mixing which is taken from my book 'Beginner's Guide' or, if you really want to go all out, get Michael Wilcox' comprehensive book 'Blue and Yellow don't make Green' which is also available from Search Press.
