Got a tip? Email me and I'll put it online with a credit to you.

Autumn is coming, or *fall* to some people above the equator.  I remember the aroma of roasting chestnuts in road side barrows on the streets of Paris, the leaves turning orange and shades of brown, whirling around our feet in the windy times.  Sydney has a charm, too, in autumn, and the area where I'm living now also has a gorgeous array of colours visbible in the leaves of the trees.

Just beautiful!  So much inspiration can be gained from our surroundings, if we spent a few moments each day savouring the shades and hues of simple things - flowers, leaves, warmer clothing, the rosy cheeks of children playing ...

Ahhhhhhh it feels grand to be alive!!!!

I have a few interesting things to share this month - a couple of fabulous websites where you can view colours if you're into changing your own website, or just as inspiration while you're having a coffee.

A few other websites grabbed my attention - artists and suppliers, and an interesting few emails about upcoming events.

Until we meet again,
Ciao ciao!

I've had a few emails from Arthur Chan, letting me know about an upcoming exhibition, and looking for artists to participate.  "The Signature of Sydney Art Prize is offering the largest art prize in Australian history and also a new challenge on what artists think Sydney is." I believe this is open to all mediums - please visit the website or contact Arthur for more information.

FEATURED ARTIST
Sharon Jiggins
Cornwall, UK

Sea Horse Wall Hanging byI came across this delightful site recently, and apart from the beautiful designs, I was struck by the professional presentation and the products for sale.

Have a look at Sharon's site - click here - her paintings have been:
  • turned into prints
  • prints are framed or unframed
  • prints are turned into cards
  • designs are wall-hangings and ties
  • picture frames are provided so it's a one-stop shop!
I was very impressed - for any of us who sell our artwork, it's a great inspiration to see how easily we can repackage our silk in other formats, in order to make additional income.

1. I've recently met a silk artist online who contacted me via the Silkworm website.  Katy lives in Canberra, about 4 hours south of Sydney, and we're planning to meet in the next month - I'm very excited!

2. I was in a fabric store recently which was having a sale.  I asked where I could find the silks, in case there was a bargain I couldn't live without ... :o)

Whilst there, a lady approached me and said she bet I was a silk artist!  We both laughed ... I was wearing one of my handpainted silk chiffon coats in glowing hot pink and orange - she could tell straight away!  We had a great chat about silk, she asked me a few questions which had been bugging her for months, and I was so pleased to be able to answer them.

See - talk to strangers! You never know where it might lead!  And yes, we have been in touch via email since then.  :o)

3. Earlier this year I joined a local textile group in Sydney, but due to other committments I haven't had the time to attend any meetings yet.  I was a member of the group about 15 years ago, when it was the Batik and Surface Design Association.  Now it's ATASDA - the Australian Textile and Surface Design Association, and I was so pleased to see some of the old names I'd remembered.

They're very active, and I'm plotting on my calendar at the moment to join in with some of their activities - SOON!  Want to pop over to their site and have a squizz??

SILK SUPPLIER
Qualin Silk : USA
Qualin Silk at australiansilkworm.com
Over the years I've bought lots of silk and products from suppliers in the USA, and I came across a name today which I know but from whom I've never made a purchase.

I decided to check out their site, and what a lot of great products!  I love their Chinese-style tops, ready for painting, and it's the first site I've seen with cotton and silk cardigans and sweaters to dye!  Check them out:
