November ...

is the month before Christmas! How on earth did this year fly by so FAST? Are you madly painting orders for customers for Christmas, or preparing for markets and fairs to bring in some mone
y before the Yuletide hits?

May be you're teaching some classes ... whatever you're up to, let us know! Send photos - we'd all love to share in each other's artistic pursuits.

I've been painting silk coats and cotton dresses for clients who order via my website ABFAB-Australia.com - I'm ALWAYS amazed when I get up in the morning and there is an email from Paypal.com letting me know I've received payment for an ordeer. I cannot grasp how people find me online when there are millions of websites, and many which sell handpainted silk AND cotton!

Accepting payments online

Is anyone interested in knowing more about paypal and accepting payments online? I am writing a course for my other business, and I thought perhaps some of you might also be interested ...

Let me know if you'd like to know more, and I'll share the info with you here.

Antique map to be restored in Japan :

from eTaiwan News : 22 Oct 04 : Taipei,Taiwan

"The Kanghsi map is still the earliest Taiwan map that incorporates Chinese painting.. ... in length and 69 centimeters in width, and was painted on silk. ..."

"Photo shows the details of the Kanghsi Taiwan Map, the oldest colored landscape-typed Taiwan map and one of most important Taiwan-related historical artifact. (Courtesy of National Taiwan Museum )"

Fascinating article, which I have saved as a pdf for you just in case it is no longer online. Let me know if you'd like me to email it to you.

Where to buy silk?

On the main part of this website are many links worldwide to buy silk and other necessities for silk painting.

Two fabulous sources for silk in Australia are:

Silksational.com.au

Contact Sylvia Riley, a delightful lady who is so willing to help.

Another of my suppliers is:

BeautifulSilks.com

Marion Gorr will send you samples of silks and is very helpful! She's helped me many times.

Both of these ladies travel and sell their silks around Australia, always on the lookout for something special to provide to silk artists.

Neither of them knows that I am putting this plug in here for them, but they are both wonderful people who deserve a mention.

In my latest search interesting websites, artists, articles and information, I hope you enjoy the following:

Icelandic Silk Artist

shankosilk.com

Sigrun lara Shanko creates hauntingly beautiful silk art.

You can view her work at

The links have fadd into the colour of the webpages, but you can click here to see each page:

About Sigrun

Works of Shanko
The wallhangings are beautiful! I have seen some of Sigrun's work at the Santa Fe Silk Festival this year in July, and fell in love with it. Click on the links for pillows, scarves, shawls and other works to get a feel for her Icelandic influences.

Northern Canadian Silk Artist
almost in Iceland!

articobiota.com silk artist

A Canadian friend of mine recently told me about a silk artist she'd read about - Ann Timmins - what a delightful website this is!

Artico Biota Studio

PS - if you use a Mac, this site is best viewed in Netscape 7 rather than Internet Explorer. Be patient, it is slow to load, java-rich, but well worth it!

I wrote to Ann and she sounds lovely - I love her submerged iceberg on the home page, and the large silk screens - beautiful work!

If you'd like to seee a map of the Arctic Circle and Yellowknife where Anne live, click here. Map reference A 3.5

If you'd likie to write to either of these artists, please do so - they'd love to hear from other silk artists around the world.

I have just had a great idea!

Would anyone be interested in reading interviews I could do with some of these silk artists?

If yes, please email me - and if you have questions YOU'D like to ask other artists, let me know! Let's implement this for the New Year!

I am also thinking of featuring a Member each month - would you all be happy to write a little about yourself and your work? I can do it like an interview, send you an email list of questions, you reply and send me a jpg or a link to a photo of you and/or your work online.

Let me know your thoughts!

Google search tip

Do you use www.google.com?

Here's a tip to help you find who is linking to your website ... or any OTHER WEBSITE.

Go to www.google.com

Type the word : link: with a SEMI-COLON and then the website name, like this:

Click on the SEARCH button or press the ENTER key.

This will show all websites currently linking to the one you searched for - cool! If you are in business, and you'd like to see who's linked to your competitors, this is a great resource.

Why no book reports?

Simple - I've been tooooo busy to research any! But if YOU would like to tell us about a book you've read, PLEASE let me know and I'll put your review in here.
